Three of Pentacles and Capricorn Season (Dec. 2025)

Greetings Friends, 

Happy Solstice. Depending on your hemisphere, this is either the longest day or the longest night of your year. A time to reflect on where we've been, give thanks for what we have and set intentions for a future grounded in love.

It's also the beginning of Capricorn Season, the sign of cardinal Earth. The second decan of Capricorn relates to the Three of Pentacles in the tarot, a card that speaks to the power of community and teamwork. In readings, this card indicates that the task at hand requires a multitude of skill sets and perspectives to be achieved. 

In her powerful deck, Our Tarot, A Guidebook and Deck Featuring Notable Women in History, artist Sarah Shipman chose the groundbreaking writer Octavia Butler as a representative for this archetype. Best known for her brilliant science fiction that features unlikely combinations of characters working together to make a better world, Octavia Butler beautifully embodies the wisdom of diversity and determination that is key to the Three of Pentacles.

Ruled by Saturn, a planet where the atmosphere is so dense that it rains diamonds, Capricorn compels us to make our dreams real, regardless of the difficulty. And the Three of Pentacles reminds us that we need not do this alone. To quote Butler, "There's no single answer that will solve all of our future problems. Instead, there are thousands of answers, at least. You can be one of them if you choose to be." This reminder that each of us has a unique role to play in building a better future for ourselves and each other is what this card and this season are truly about.
