Greetings Friends, In the Northern Hemisphere, summer is drawing to an end. In the Southern Hemisphere, the first glimpses of spring are appearing. For all of us, this period marks a liminal time where we turn inward and take stock, returning to our wholeness amidst a world of external change. Welcome to Virgo season. The second decan of Virgo (Sept 2-11) relates to the Nine of Pentacles (or Nine of Coins) in the tarot, a card that invites us to rest in the garden we've made for ourselves. For many, allowing ourselves the time and space to enjoy the fruits of our labor can be confronting. "Productivity" and "earning" have been so prioritized in our culture, that we lose sight of our necessity for pleasure and rest. In Andi Todaro's ethereal art from The Fountain Tarot, we see a woman with a falcon perched on her hand flanked by foliage and circles of gold. In other words, she's good. She has built a life of security and beauty for herself, a sanctuary to come home to. She has become a safe place to land. Virgos are known for their resourcefulness, discipline and attention to detail. This is the sign that rules our digestion, and keenly discerns that which is nourishing from that which is toxic and unworthy of our consumption, attention or time. When this energy is in balance, we are left with a sense of deep satisfaction and care. When out of balance, we become hyper-vigilant, perfectionistic and unable to "turn off." If we feel like we can't afford to take a break, this card can seem like an intervention, a good friend looking us in the eye and asking "can you afford not to?" A good question to return to, for this season and beyond. with love and wholeness, Lisa |
