Three of Swords & Libra Season (Sept. 2026)
Greetings Friends, Happy Equinox! Today marks the balance of the dark and the light. We have entered the final quarter of the year, with three months left until the solstice. Now is a time to recognize which relationships in our lives are fair and balanced, and which are not, and to adjust our scales accordingly. Welcome to Libra Season. The second decan of Libra (Oct. 3-13) relates to the Three of Swords in the tarot, a card that invites us into deep healing. This is one of the most visceral cards in the deck. When it comes up in a reading, I find myself inhaling sharply and wincing, as though I was being pierced by a knife. It is an archetype that asks us to feel the pain of a heartbreak or loss, in order to heal and grow from it. In Andi Todaro's exquisite art from The Fountain Tarot, we see a translucent rainbow heart being fractured by three needle like swords amidst a stormy backdrop. While the suit of the swords is connected to the mind, this card illustrates how the stories we tell ourselves about our wounding can create powerful emotional waves. Libras are known as the peacekeepers of the zodiac, but also the champions of divine justice. Ruled by Venus, the planet of love and connection, Libran energy reminds us of our innate worthiness and equality, regardless of the people, or institutions, who have denied it. This is where the Three of Swords becomes an invitation back to our power. If the first sword represents the pain inflicted upon us, and the second sword represents our honesty about the fact that it hurts, the third sword becomes the story we tell ourselves about the wound. This is where we heal. Through the wielding of the third sword, the truth of our lovability, we return to our wholeness, not as a victim but as a divine being of infinite strength.
