The first decan of Taurus relates to the Five of Pentacles, the "have faith" card amidst material contraction. For many of us, April is a time of taxes, tariff's and financial anxiety. In readings, this card shows up as a reflection of the fear of material loss or scarcity. As earthly beings, these fears are not new, they have been hard-wired into our nervous systems over millennia, and are highlighted during times of illness, extreme wealth disparity and economic uncertainty.  

In So Lazo's rich and vibrant deck, Rainbow Tarot, we see two weary travelers in the foreground, looking for shelter. Behind them are five gold rimmed pentacles blooming amidst a chilly landscape. This image illustrates the wisdom, and challenge, of the card. When it comes up in a reading, we are invited to see the temporary quality of our situation and the lasting support of our soul. 

This brings up the paradox of Taurean energy, ruled by Venus, the planet of love and connection. It calls us to remember that the earthly plane is animated by spirit, that each flower, tree, and stretch of dirt, is in fact a portal to sacred presence and spiritual riches. It is the reminder that embodiment is the path to transcendence. Like the two weary travelers, we are invited to turn to the nourishing support that is available in every moment, to take a pause, plant our feet and reconnect to the shelter of our soul.
